Meet The Band

History

Cowboy Drumstick was first to be on board, shortly followed by Rocketman but they were looking for just a little bit more. Rumors of Song Bird's singing abilities were circulating in hushed reverent tones around the school. In an effort to convince Song Bird and Ivory Goddess (who was also being pressured) to perform, students rallied to pull together the many talents that you can now see displayed in the band Just OK.

Who we are

We are JUST OK!

Theena Roberts

"Song Bird"

Vocals

Mrs. Theena Roberts entered the music world late in life, actually, with the band Just OK. Her family has solid musical talent and she always felt a little left out. When the band Just OK was formed, they welcomed her in with open arms. The band has been patient, kind, and super supportive throughout this journey.

Deborah Thompson
"Ivory Goddess"

Piano

"I’m a Gemini, with a love for pale pink peonies and scandalous romance novels! I love people-watching, sitting in the sand by the ocean, laughing at nonsensical situations, and getting distracted by my students’ stories! I’m rather shy, so my plans for worldwide domination of the music scene did not begin until a certain anonymous student (initials: MS) persistently encouraged me to hook up with a certain anonymous singer from the math department (initials: TR) to form a band. Now that I have had a taste of the glory of performance and been approached by a certain anonymous person offering to manage my career (initials: DS), I shall most likely not be teaching much longer. "

Shane Polley
"The Cowboy Drumstick"

Drums

A man of woods, words and wonders, Shane Polley has wandered wide in this world. He joined the band to widen his wisdom, wield wooden sticks and wail on the drums. He wishes to witness a windfall from this winning sound, but will welcome a well-warranted warm wave or wink. With that, we'll let the words wax and wane.

Alex Soto
"Rocket Man"

Guitar

"Mr. “Rocketman” Soto had his musical origins start young in life. Growing up to the calming sounds of German Death Metal provided by his brother and ZZ Top (provided by his father). As he grew up so did his musical taste. Now he is a fan of all types of music ranging from rock to folk, from country to hip hop. His joining in the cult classic “Just Ok” came when he answered an ad, an ad that quenched his musical thirst. He wanted a chance to bring music to the class of 2021.

Kevin Madson
"The Bass-Beast"

Bass Guitar

Kevin Madson or AKA "The Bass Beast" Is no stranger to the world of music. A classically trained flautist and a band director by trade, he has had plans for world domination in music for quite some time now. Originally a jazz bassist in High School, the Bass Beast dusted off his trusty axe when the band members of "Just Ok" came to him with a proposition to be in the band...but more importantly, access to his precious band room for rehearsals. Kevin enjoys lifting weights, golfing, and shredding the GNAR with his fellow bandmates of Just Ok. Is this a match made in heaven? Only time will tell....

Drew Scheffelmaier
"The Manager"

Manages

"Growing up I always enjoyed being on the road and seeing new places. At one point I dreamed of going on the substitute teacher tour. This tour would take me through all 50 states substitute teaching along the way. It wasn't difficult to find others that wanted to join my tour, I had a driver, a cook, a secretary who would organize my teaching schedule throughout the trip and a handful of other just "groupies." I wanted so bad for this tour to get its wheels rolling, but it has yet to get into gear.

Recently I had the pleasure and opportunity to be a stage manager with the group..."Just Ok." I feel like this tour group is going big places and I am excited to see the scenery. It might also allow me to reach my personal goals of substitute teaching in all 50 states."
